Statement of Purpose
January 12, 2009
As an introductory post I’ll start off with a statement of what I hope to accomplish with this blog.
I’ve started this blog to speak out loud about my interests in some things photographic. Not all things as there’s quite a few things I have no interest in. Like color. Not very interested in color. This might have something to do with my inability to match trousers with shirt but I’ll leave that for the audience to ponder.
I’ve had a personal blog for over nine years but I use that to connect to people, talk about how I feel about things, say unkind things about elected officials, and show people my pictures. While some of the people I know are avid photographers as well that’s a small subset and an even smaller subset of those folks do what I do which is shooting film.
This blog is dedicated to black and white photography using film. We’ll discuss both using the darkroom and scanner for output.
I shoot black and white film, develop it myself, and then scan it into my computer to pull it into photoshop. While I’m familiar with the wet darkroom and actually prefer a good fiber print to any other form of output I just don’t have the time and access to make the commitment to becoming a good printer. So I’d like to discuss the process of shoot and developing traditionally, editing digitally, and sharing your work digitally and in print form. A large part of photography is equipment so I’ll share my thoughts on what I’ve had the opportunity to work with as well as reviewing the work and thoughts of others.
